journaling?

Posted on 2009.01.27 at 00:11
So you haven't seen me here in a long time. I haven't been totally ignoring livejournal, but I really haven't been updating like I used to.
I still get on from time to time and read posts. I don't have a facebook or anything but I did get a twitter account and have been playing around with online networking with it. If you have a twitter account follow my feed over there.
Maybe I'll post to livejournal again. Or maybe I won't. Either way I'll talk to you all soon.

Anything going on in the city today??

Posted on 2007.09.28 at 11:50
I'm hanging out in Fair Grinds today basically waiting for something to happen. I'm checking my work e-mail for news... and nothing. Actually it was hard to find news for the morning show. It seems like the city stopped today. It seems like no one is working. Slow day. It feels like the Big Easy around here today.

From Fair Grinds Coffee House

Posted on 2007.06.20 at 21:14
I am DAMN glad that Fair Grinds is back open again. It's been almost two years since they closed and it's good to be back. I'm sure that I haven't bloged about Fair Grinds before because I didn't start this till after the storm. Fair Grinds was the place that we all met up and studied during my last year and a half in college because it is located more or less in the center of the city and it took everyone about the same time to get here. Except for a few changes they are pretty much the same since before the storm. It's got that same funky feel and the changes that they made I think are good changes.
These days though this place is no longer in my "relm of travel" running back across the lake every day with work does not put me close to here. I wish it did though because it's the best place in the city to stop and meet up with friends or study or just to slow down really.
Tonight I made it a point to wake up early and come here and work on my resume. I found out that they close at 10pm which does not work for me AT ALL. I have to be at work for midnight so I don' t know what I'm going to do for two hours after they close. I guess I'm just going to go back to work.
Anyway I need to make time for this place... I really need to make time for a lot of things. My number one problem is I just don't have time for anything anymore. Working full time and living so far away from work I don't have time for much else except work, which really sucks. I think if I could some kind of way fit coming here a few times a week in to my schedule it would help me be happier... but I know that I won't. And I won't because I just can't.

My OLD website

Posted on 2007.05.29 at 06:40
Oh boy. Do I have some FUN for you today. I love the Internet Archive Wayback Machine. If you haven't played with it go and play with it. It's a blast. Here is a link to the archived copies of "Kevin's Main Homepage" my old website that I created back in 97-2000. Remember when the internet used to look like that? The moving gif files, the loud colors, and pointless websites for the sake of making websites?? Cool wasn't. Now all that morphed in to Myspace. Welcome to my world wayback when...

Hi all

Posted on 2007.05.22 at 07:13
Nothing really new to report here.
Mom wants me to call someone back that she knows that wants to buy some pictures. I hate that. I think I need to get out of the picture sales business. I enjoy doing it but it's just so much work. I like taking picture and printing pictures more than selling pictures. go figure.

Dorignac's Wine Sale

Posted on 2007.05.17 at 12:35
Holy Crap! Don't go to a dorignac wine sale. Those people are CRAZY. I went in for their three for 10 dollar sale on selected wines and people were fighting over bottles and filling up BASKETS FULL of wine. You would think people have never seen wine before. To top it off the wine was not all that cheap. You can get the same stuff three for 10 dollars every day at Cork and Bottle. For the cheapest and best wine selection around there's always Acquistapace's.

Weather

Posted on 2007.05.16 at 07:28
It looks like we are going to be in for some possible rough weather today. I don't think it's going to be as bad as the weather two fridays ago when the pumping system in New Orleans got a BIG test and I think passed with flying colors. That could have been a lot worse. Maybe we are not going to be that bad off for hurricane season if all the levees hold.
Remember. all the major rain events happen in early May (think May 8th flood). Unless a tropical system parks over us we won't see more rain than that during hurricane season.

LJ Friend Party

Posted on 2007.05.15 at 13:18
hi LJ friends. I have a good idea. I'm going to have an LJ friends party!!! All of my LJ friends are invited. Actually it's a mandatory party. All of my friends have to attend or you'll be thrown out of my friends list and miss out on all the action here on my blog.

The party will be at a clothing optional beach. (Aren't there some in Florida?)

So my blog gets read

Posted on 2007.05.11 at 06:38
As it turns out a lot of people read this stuff every day like me but don't put content online, like me!
Anyway here's a quick update of me today.
I'm just TGIFin' it today. I'm glad it's Friday and I'm glad it's almost 8am so I can go home and start my weekend. As it turns out Louisiana lost the big three billion dollar steel mill to Alabama. Along with it went three thousand jobs that paid 50 percent more than the average wage in the southern US. Oh well just another blow to Louisiana.
Ah well we still have beignets and Brad Pitt right? oh shit we're screwed.

Almost 6 months

Posted on 2007.05.09 at 07:36
It's been almost  five months since my last update. Although it would appear that I have pulled out of this site totally that's incorrect. I still check LJ DAILY but I just don't update my blog. I read the New Orleans group here on livejournal and it helps with story ideas here at the station. I have also started a photo blog on my website that I don't update that often but more so than this one. If you have  a RSS reader add my photo blog to it.
So do you miss my posts? Should I update? Comments?

Posting to the Journal

Posted on 2007.01.18 at 03:48
Current Location: Newsdesk
I really don't post on this thing like I should at all. Every time I come here to post it looks different.

I'm at work right now and we lost our Production Assistant. That kind of sucks for me because I have to do more stuff like.. err... run the teleprompter till they get someone new. I hope that they get someone in soon.

Also, I forgot to mention! I ordered a new Telephoto lens for my camera. When it comes in I'm going to have to go out and stalk some Streetcars.

My Journal update

Posted on 2007.01.02 at 02:59
Hi gang,
I guess I should update my journal once in a while.
Nothing has really changed much I've been working still here at the station at night and I've been trying to keep up with my own post Katrina recovery. I must admit that I'm seriously considering leaving New Orleans. It's frustrating to see this city in such disarray. Things just aren't/ don't happen quickly around here.
In many ways the storm has just exasperated every problem that New Orleans already had. Politics, no jobs, no educated workforce, no major companies. The area remains stagnant at half of the pre-katrina population.
It's not all doom and gloom though. The Murder rate is the lowest it has been in 30 years... but as the city repopulated the crime comes back. The first half of the year remained crime free and the last half of the year was a mess. Look for a skyrocket crime rate in 2007.
Further as far as crime goes listening to the scanners every night makes me realize all the crimes that happen in the city that aren't known. There are many armed robberies in the French Quarter every night. Although no one is hurt and it doesn't make the news... being a victim of an armed robbery I'm sure is not fun. It makes me want to stay away from the quarter, and I mostly have.
I went to the quarter one morning and got a muffalata from central grocery. It was so nice not to have to stand in a line and it was better that I remember it. I think it's because they are not rushing them anymore to get the line moving. And all of a sudden the quarter is SO interested getting locals there because there is no tourists. But before the storm those business didn't give a care about us... so I'm not going to give a care about them. If places down there have to close.... oh well.
I'll avidly support New Orleans businesses, and I'll support any business reopening in Mid-City, Lakeview, and St. Bernard. If you're a business owner that is defying the odds and coming back you can count on my support... if your business was never damaged by the storm, just damaged by the fact that you've been courting visitors and not locals for the past 30 years... well you have yourself to blame.

Hmmmm....

I'm starting to wonder if I should change the name to Blakely's Second Journal. Yes, that is correct, this is Blakely once again.

Kevin had to work on New Year's Eve.

When Christmas came, he didn't have to work. Well, I'd love to bore you for much longer, but I have king cake to eat.

Until next time, it's been fun!

Blakely is making fudge to bring to my house tomorrow.

Blakely and I have been doing great, as usual. I went to Lakeside to get Blakely's Christmas presents today. Blakely got mine a couple of days ago. Well, that's all folks! Until next time, it's been a pleasure!
